(as ganked from h_matsumoto ^_^)

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
- whole-heartedly, fearlessly and deliberately walk away from something that made me unhappy. I've walked away from a lot of things in the past, but always with a bit of apprehension, and maybe regret. Not this time, though.
-Shop like there was no tomorrow and as if my wallet was bottomless! XDDD

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
- I stopped making resolutions many years ago since I keep forgetting what they are. XDDD

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
- Nope.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
- Nope.

5. What countries did you visit?
- None. T_T

Yep, it's that time of the year when people and kids get to dress up and scare the bejeezus out of eachother again. Hehe... here in the Philippines, it normally translates to an obligatory visit to the cemetery to pay our respects to our dearly departed, but this year, me and my family have (finally!!) decided to avoid the rush and just visit at a more convenient time. I'm sure our loved ones would undestand. ^_^;;

Your result for The Greek Mythology Personality Test...

Nemesis

33% Extroversion, 67% Intuition, 72% Emotiveness, 24% Perceptiveness

You are a normally quiet person with very strong convictions and a marked activist streak. You have a clearly defined sense of right and wrong, and you like seeing people punished for their transgressions. You are Nemesis, goddess of punishment. You are a champion for the defenseless, you love poetic justice and, if karmic retribution doesn't have its say, then you'll have yours. You are astute, rarely fooled, and idealistic.

Your defining characteristic is your internal and inflexible system of morals. Because of your highly intuitive nature, you possess the theoretical nature required to define those morals, but you sometimes lack the ability to verbalize and expound on them, especially on the more nuanced parts of your worldview. Regardless, you have strong instincts which often prove to be correct, and rather than preaching, you act on them. You don't compromise -- ever.

You can sometimes be a person of great internal stress. You don't have double standards, and so you expect the same of yourself as you expect of others. You might find, sometimes, that you have just as hard of a time in living up to those expectations as the people around you. As a result, you are rarely at peace with yourself, but you're also likely to think of this in a positive light -- you're always forcing yourself to improve, and you avoid making mistakes.

You tend to be a private person, and don't like to talk much about those staunch morals of yours until, that is, they become violated. Once that happens, everyone is going to know exactly where you stand. You have a distaste of nihilism and intellectual relativism that will make you naturally compatible with scientists and certain kinds of philosophers, even if they don't share your activist streak.

Famous People like you: Goethe, Voltaire, Susan B. Anthony, Robert Burns
Similar Personality Types: Prometheus, The Oracle, Hermes, Orpheus
Avoid: Icarus, Dionysus, Agamemnon, Atlas
You may or may not be able to get along with an Odysseus -- it will depend on his/her upbringing.

My personality type: the reliable realist

According to them...

Reliable Realists are down-to-earth and responsible-minded. They are precise, reserved and demanding. Their most prominent quality is reliability and they will always make every effort to keep any promise given. Reliable Realists are more quiet and serious persons, they do not talk a lot but they are good listeners. They sometimes seem reserved and distant to outsiders although they often have a great deal of wit and esprit. Their strong points are thoroughness, a marked sense of justice, doggedness bordering on pigheadedness and a pragmatic, vigorous and purposeful manner. Reliable Realists do not dither about if something has to be done. They do what is necessary without wasting words.

This personality type not only expects a lot of himself but also of others. Once Reliable Realists have set their mind on something, it is difficult to persuade them otherwise. They do not like to leave anything to chance. Planning means safety to Reliable Realists, as well as order and discipline. They have no problem respecting authorities and hierarchies but do not like to delegate tasks. They are certain that others would not deal with them as conscientiously as they do. In management positions, they are very task-oriented - they make sure that things are well done; however, they do not have a great deal of interest in personal contacts at work.

In relationships too, Reliable Realists are reliability itself. As partners, they are faithful and consistent, well-balanced and sensible. Security and stability are very important to them. They have little time for extravagances and flightiness. Whoever has them as friend or partner can rely on them for a lifetime. However, it takes quite a while for Reliable Realists to enter into a relationship or friendship. They have little need for social contacts; they therefore take great care when choosing partners and friends and limit themselves to a small but exclusive circle which meets their high demands. They tend to show their closeness to people who are important to them by deeds - their partner should rather not expect romantic declarations of love.

Adjectives which describe your type
introverted, practical, logical, planning, tradition-conscious, organised, persistent, objective, tidy, conscientious, cautious, loyal, peace-loving, sensible, down-to-earth, responsible-minded, reserved, careful, independent, punctual, precise, demanding, ability to concentrate, trustworthy, pedantic, reliable, persevering

These subjects could interest you
literature, technical activities (model-making), voluntary work, music, trekking, camping, hiking, cooking, drawing/painting, handicraft work, writing, strategy games, politics

Ahehehe... XD XD Spot on.

I'm considering changing phones, and I need a bit of help on making a choice. I'd really appreciate the input. ^_^;;

For more info on those phone models:

- Nokia 3110 Classic specs and photos
- Motorola V3X specs and photos

Sigh. I recently, FINALLY changed my old Nokia 7360 for a fresh Nokia 3110 Classic. I swapped phones with my dad. My current dilemma is figuring out if it would be a wise thing to swap an okay phone that's fresh (the 3110), with another model that I THINK I really want (the V3X). The catch is that the model that I THINK I want is going to be a second-hand item. :/

Is the V3X worth it?

Sigh. I've been wanting to change phones for months, and it just really started to gnaw on me when a couple of weeks ago, our office's local taho vendor whipped out a Pocket PC. It was then that I realized that the need for a mobile device that at least has Bluetooth technology and USB compatibility could no longer be denied. T_T

Help. T_T;

First of all, a plug:
CNN is conducting a short survey. In return for your time, which would be about ten minutes, they will donate $2.00 to charity of your choosing. Now isn't that neat? I've personally chosen to give my $2 to the WWF. ^_^v So, just head over to CNN's website, and look for the following banner ads sprinkled around the pages:

--------------------------

Here in Manila, summer has already been officially declared as over, and the rains have been making that point obvious. Sigh. I'm just glad that I was able to squeeze in a couple of out-of-town trips during that relatively short period, so that I could at least say that I HAD a summer to speak of. Haha!

The bad thing about the sudden transition from dry to wet season is that you get so used to anticipating sun and heat, that you never bother to bring an umbrella, except maybe on some whim. When you all get caught in the rain, though, that's when you realize that the umbrella that you brought with you yesterday just because you felt like it, is sitting on a shelf in your room today, all nice, dry and cozy.

And that's also probably the reason why today, I am sniffing and coughing like an asthmatic mongrel. Sigh.

--------------------------

Speaking of the rains, I got into a nasty spat with another commuter the other night, when I was taking a jeepney on the way to work. There was a really heavy downpour that night, and everyone just wanted to get under a roof or inside a ride. This office girl who was seated beside me, for some unknown reason, decided it would be a good idea to raise the plastic tarp that kept the insides of the jeepney from being drenched, just so she can take a peek outside at... more rain. Since she was seated in the middle of our row, and the tarp was one long piece, raising a part of it caused the water to slip down towards sides, instead of going straight down and falling harmlessly down the side of the jeepney.

I was to her right, there was another guy to my right, and to the man's right was the jeepney's entry/exit point. As the water slipped to the side, my back and my jacket got drenched after I took so much effort to keep myself dry, while the man's butt got wet because the water from the tarp pooled in his seat.

I called the girl's attention, and this is where it all went wrong.

Instead of at least TRYING to look sorry, or apologizing to us, the girl gave us that LOOK, then rolled her eyes at us and looked towards her friend who was seated to her left. I swear, I just snapped right then and there. A lot of sharp words were sent flying her way, and I finally got to use TWO lines that I've been saving for occasions like this, while the guy with the wet pants acted as my one-man pep squad:
1.) That's MISS bitch, you piece of shit!

and

2.) Well it's either you were born retarded or raised stupid, which one is it?? (I later realized that this line also works with the same potency if it were translated into the vernacular, so feel free.)

That pretty much threw the girl off-balance. Line #2 is affectionately attributed to Luis Sison Jr., who has, to my sincerest gratitude, prepared us for situations like this. Seriously, we used to joke around on what would be great things to sling at someone in an argument, and it looks like all that came to good use afterall. XD

The girl didn't really have much to say after that, though her friend was profusely apologizing on the other's behalf. However, the fun REALLY begins when they prepare to get off the jeepney.

They asked the driver to drop them off in front of King's Court along Pasong Tamo Avenue, and as we locals know, when it rains, that area tends to get flooded with enough water to go over the gutter. So, the friend disembarks first, and we watch as she skips quickly to the higher ground offered by the sidewalk. However, as our female offender was about to completely get off the jeep, she looks at us again, flips her hair, rolls her eyes at us and says, "Che!"

She doesn't get away with it, though, because with one foot on the little step on the back of all jeepneys, the man beside me TRIPS HER with his leg and causes her to fall face first into the flooded street, bag, purse, folders, binders, paperwork and all! XD Oh, sweet justice! And to top it all off, everyone else in the jeepney who was silent until then, all started cheering and clapping!

The jeepney then drives off, and the last we see of the girl is on her hands and knees in dirty floodwater, with the water reaching almost up to her elbows. I remember that only the area near her shoulders retained the gray color of her matching slacks and blazer, because all the rest of it got darker because of the water, but that small gray area turned dark as well because the rain was still pouring at the time. Her humongous bag was floating near her arm (and I could only imagine what happened to its contents), and a couple of folders were floating towards the nearest drain. Her friend could only watch from the sidewalk. I swear I'll never forget that. XD

The man and I did a hi-five, and I got off at my stop a couple of blocks later. I had to dry my jacket and the back of my shirt under the hand dryer at the office, but I didn't mind quite as much anymore. XD

So the lesson we learned here is: Don't be an asshat. ^_^v

Got this from Okie's blog.

BBC is apparently running a survey/experiment to see how easily people can perceive a fake and a genuine smile on another person. Being the gullible wreck that I am, I only managed to correctly distinguish 13 out of 20. ^_^;; According to the BBC:
"Most people are surprisingly bad at spotting fake smiles. One possible explanation for this is that it may be easier for people to get along if they don't always know what others are really feeling.

Although fake smiles often look very similar to genuine smiles, they are actually slightly different, because they are brought about by different muscles, which are controlled by different parts of the brain.

Fake smiles can be performed at will, because the brain signals that create them come from the conscious part of the brain and prompt the zygomaticus major muscles in the cheeks to contract. These are the muscles that pull the corners of the mouth outwards.

Genuine smiles, on the other hand, are generated by the unconscious brain, so are automatic. When people feel pleasure, signals pass through the part of the brain that processes emotion. As well as making the mouth muscles move, the muscles that raise the cheeks ā€“ the orbicularis oculi and the pars orbitalis ā€“ also contract, making the eyes crease up, and the eyebrows dip slightly.

Lines around the eyes do sometimes appear in intense fake smiles, and the cheeks may bunch up, making it look as if the eyes are contracting and the smile is genuine. But there are a few key signs that distinguish these smiles from real ones. For example, when a smile is genuine, the eye cover fold - the fleshy part of the eye between the eyebrow and the eyelid - moves downwards and the end of the eyebrows dip slightly.

Scientists distinguish between genuine and fake smiles by using a coding system called the Facial Action Coding System (FACS), which was devised by Professor Paul Ekman of the University of California and Dr Wallace V. Friesen of the University of Kentucky."
And there's our mame chishiki for today. ^_^

So, how did YOU do?

A handwriting analysis from http://www.handwritingwizard.com

It's pretty interesting since some things were spot on...

Wheee~! )

In the meantime, I also recently ran into a hilarious article about how Uwe Boll was flat-out rejected by Blizzard when he offered to make a WoW movie. XD Haha! Nothing says "Stay the hell outta my fandom" than "we will not sell the movie rights, not to you.... especially not to you."

Ouch! XD

Hehe... I know that I haven't updated in a while, and I really should be posting about other things right now... but I can't resist. XD

Oh... and before I get right into that, here's something that made me smile today: a clip of Philip Lee. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE~~!! XD XD

Cough.

And here's the meme proper.

I'm currently dashing off a post even though I don't really have anything to say (well, actually, I DO have something to say, but what I've got to say requires some degree of thought and concentration as it's a pretty serious matter which I feel should be written in a pretty serious manner...) because I AM SCARED WITLESS RIGHT NOW.

I made the mistake of going over thetotorocatbus' LJ entry, and I am now alone in our apartment, cold and completely freaked out. Yes, I am sharing that link. Come! Be traumatized along with me!! AHAHAHAHA!!!

Eeeep.

I really shouldn't have done that.

I have the same attitude to horror as I do to spicy beef biriani rice (remember the one they serve at Mister Kebab's?). I am stupidly attracted and enthusiastic towards it even though I have absolutely no guts to handle such things, and then moments later, I only realize all this AFTER I've scarred my memory (or my tastebuds) for life.

Gah...

La dee daa~~~...

Ooh, look! Meme!

I knew it. This blog is too full of juvenile drivel and angst and ducks. On the other hand, I can market it under the premise of being "a light and easy read". Don't you just love euphemisms?

By the way, if you're taking that meme above, remember to edit the code or you'll end up with some link on your blog that leads to some cash advance/loan spam site.

ksolaris: (Default)
(as taken from miss M_rose and miss khursten)

Step One
- Make a post (public, friends locked,filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can bean ything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves)could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two
-Surf around your friends list (or friends friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

K's LIST

6.) Any book that you think I'd enjoy reading

7.) donations to my PayPal account for ANY amount! It's "K's grocery and bills fund". ^_^;;;

8.) stripey black and white knee-high socks

9.) postcards, letters or whatever else you'd like to send me in the mail. I miss snailmail! ^___^

You are The Devil

Materiality. Material Force. Material temptation; sometimes obsession

The Devil is often a great card for business success; hard work and ambition.

Perhaps the most misunderstood of all the major arcana, the Devil is not really "Satan" at all, but Pan the half-goat nature god and/or Dionysius. These are gods of pleasure and abandon, of wild behavior and unbridled desires. This is a card about ambitions; it is also synonymous with temptation and addiction. On the flip side, however, the card can be a warning to someone who is too restrained, someone who never allows themselves to get passionate or messy or wild - or ambitious. This, too, is a form of enslavement. As a person, the Devil can stand for a man of money or erotic power, aggressive, controlling, or just persuasive. This is not to say a bad man, but certainly a powerful man who is hard to resist. The important thing is to remember that any chain is freely worn. In most cases, you are enslaved only because you allow it.

Lolz. It's been a while since I've taken a meme like this (thank you to overintrospect, where I swiped the meme from), and I'm amused at how apt the description seems to be, considering my current habits and state of mind.

Hmm... and to think that it's the first day of the last quarter of the year. I'll take this as a sign that things may go the way I want it to go, and as a warning that I better not overdo it. I've already had my boyfriend tell me things that are along the same line, so I'm guessing this must be some sort of validation. Haha! XD

In other news, I got a bonus today. Yay. ^_^
ksolaris: (word up)
Instructions: Each player starts with 7 random facts/habits about themselves. People who are tagged need to write on their own blog about their seven things, as well as these rules. At the end of your blog, you need to choose 7 people to get tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them that they have been tagged and to read your blog!

SEVEN:

1) I am a popcorn fiend. If there's one thing that drives me nuts, it's the scent of buttery, freshly-popped popcorn that I can't get to.

2) I am a packrat/hoarder because I like to hang on to things with sentimental value. I collect movie tickets from the movies that Ian and I saw together, etc. Now I just need a better way to organize it all...

3) I love plasticware. I love little storage boxes, plastic organizers, little dinner sets in cute colors and designs, lunch boxes. Sometimes I buy them even if I don't really need them and I end up with more clutter instead of getting rid of it. XD

4) I have zero school spirit. Sorry, but until now, I still don't care who the heck wins the UAAP games, and I still don't see what the fuss is all about.

5) If I could label, color coordinate, color code and package each and every thing in ever place that I ever get to... I would.

6) I love ghost stories, ghost pictures, horror films... but I'm too scared to watch/read/look at them.

7) I find cooking to be absolutely therapeutic. If I could keep cooking all our meals in a day, I probably would.

I tag... anyone and everyone. XD XD XD

- Kristine likes to tell the story that. her team really kicked into high gear once their team nutritionist started.

- Kristine likes to do Flashback Fridays, but I decided that I would do what Iā€™m calling Turn Back Tuesdays.

- In her spare time Kristine likes to read, ride her horse and spend time with her family.

- Outside of the classroom, Kristine likes to spend time with her friends playing catch after getting pizza at "Miami's Best"

- In her free time, Kristine likes to play the piano, sing and relax.

- Kristine likes to go bowling, and later this month, makes her first Communion.

My boyfriend [livejournal.com profile] idle_eidolon has just pointed out to me the fact that the world is now busy voting for the new seven wonders of the modern world (well, you gotta admit that the Colossus of Rhodes and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon have gone... well... AWOL on us). I've just recently made my vote, and I'm not really sure if I'm the only person on the internet who has not heard of it yet.

Anyway, they'll be announcing the new wonders by July 7 of this year, so if you're like me, WELCOME TO THE INTERNET who is forever late with things like this, cast your vote already!! ^_^

Visit their site and cast your vote here!

I voted for:

- The Pyramids of Giza (2600 - 2500 B.C), Egypt
- The Acropolis of Athens (450 - 330 B.C.) Athens, Greece
- Petra (9 B.C. - 40 A.D.), Jordan
- Kiyomizu Temple (749 - 1855) Kyoto, Japan
- Stonehenge (3000 B.C. - 1600 B.C.) Amesbury, United Kingdom
- The Taj Mahal (1630 A.D.) Agra, India
- Alhambra (12th century) Granada, Spain

My personal favorite is the Taj Mahal, not only because it's beautiful and it's an amazing piece of architecture for its time, but it comes with a fantastic background story of love and devotion to boot. Haha! ^__^

FOURTEEN THINGS THAT IT TOOK ME
OVER 50 YEARS TO LEARN

by Dave Barry

1. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
2. If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be "meetings."
3. There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
4. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.
5. You should not confuse your career with your life.
6. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.
7. Never lick a steak knife.
8. The most destructive force in the universe is gossip.
9. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time.
10. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.
11. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age eleven.
12. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above-average drivers.
13. A person who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, is not a nice person. (This is very important. Pay attention. It never fails.)
14. Your friends love you anyway.

||THOUGHT OF THE DAY||

Never be afraid to try something new.
Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark.
A large group of professionals built the Titanic.
